I challenge this one to a debate, anywhere, any how (except on Hannity's show)

DJ Black Adam... I'm not sure what the debate would be about. Zo was actually on point! Excellent post CBW!!!

I tend to look a little deeper than most, sure Zo and I would seem to agree on a few points, unfortunately our starting presuppositions are miles apart. In other words, we might say the same things, but for he entirely different reasons.

I think the brother is using truths to support a fiction, but that's me....

Thanks for posting this. I really enjoyed it. Hopefully, some liberals will be enlightened by it.

Um... fair enough. I think that he "kind of" got the jist of socialism. I do, however, think that a mistake that conservative activists/pundits make is to "cry wolf" re. socialism (like, apparently everything President Obama does is socialist/Marxist/fascist full stop) without ever weighing or acknowledging the full, complicated, and tragic history/effect that said political ideologies have had in the world. I think that such remarks (as seen in the recent Tea Parties) belittles the actual lived experiences of peoples who've suffered under these systems of government. I actually think that it's an insult to the President, and to the American people, when remarks like that are made so flippantly. People were tortured and died under these systems. Please, let's use these terms, particularly in relation to their historical weight, properly. Keep up the good work CBW!

Oh, and CBW, thanks for introducing me (and I'm sure others, through your blog) to Zo. I've been listening to/watching his posts. Very interesting - always impressed. Again, can't co-sign to everything, but good food for thought. All the best.

If you don't figure out what tyranny(oppression)is, you have no language for your conservatism.

Please read Mark Levins book soon!

@Politics:

I would disagree that conservatives are doing the president and Americans a diservice to call what is being undertaken by the administration socialism. We have the benefit of looking back at history, the complicated and horrific history of failed political and economic policy that is socialim and seeing the things that have taken place and are threatening to take place for what they are. Regardless of what you want to call it, the end result, if the gov't succeeds in the proposed healthcare reform, in addition to the banking and auto industry bailouts, is it's control of a significant portion of the economy. It's statism. It gives the gov't enormous power over our lives. The history of the world is one of tyranny, we have been fortunate in the U.S. to not have experienced it yet. But it is the increasing trend. not only are people willing to give up their rights for security, but increasingly, we are desperate for the "security" this gov't is trying to feed us. It's a dangerous thing, and other countries have fallen into this via bloody revolutions. We are walking willingly into this system. The one thing that is striking when you hear people who support the actions of what Obama and congress is doing is that they don't know or don't want to know the down side, so they hear these things on the surface and say "hey, why not"? They truly don't recognize what they are walking into.

Attorneymom~That's not nice. I have never posted a video by Pastor Manning on my blog. I'm not brave enough and all of his credibility is eroded by his antics. Namely the "happy head" comment on that video. I'm not feeling the love from you today AM, what's up?

For the record this is my pastor,
Lon Solomon of McLean Bible Church:

If we (black folks)focused more on the Lord Jesus Christ and less on the pigmentation of skin and the sin of racism in the hearts of men we would lead happier more fulfilling lives because whom the Son sets free is free indeed.

oops, I meant nappy head comment. Also for the record....I'm happily nappy, check out my picture which I refuse to change despite numerous suggestions froms friends that I should.

Ah, a reader of Mark's book. Yes it is called statism, my anonymous friend. Good call. And it is to understand how this statism cripples our thinking and actions.

This video was simply off base...If the debt of slavery was paid through freedom then what about the Jews that were killed in the Holocaust. Would the debt of the Holocaust be paid through the freedom of those in Auschwitz and other concentration camps...The answer is an unequivocal no! Slaves are owed more than freedom! Someone seems to have failed introductory philosophy...This is similar to kidnapping someone, torturing them, and the saying that you are going to "make things right" by setting them free? So then are we saying that the Jews and the Japanese should not have received restitution payments? No! This is a racist mentality! You all, who are black, should be ashamed of yourself! Also should we take away tax funded "free" schools? "free" infrastructure? "free" police force?

DJ Black Adam, are you boycotting Character Corner??

CBW, please don't reprimand me on your blog. : - )

I already had to sever ties with two bloggers that put me on blast when the could have called me or sent me a private email. : - )

I am going through a rough time in my life right now and humor is weapon of choice. So please don't take what I say to heart. And if you don't like anything that I post on your blog in humor, please give me the common courtesy of calling me or sending me a private email to advice me of your disapproval of my comments.

While either "side" bickers,I mean, discusses republican democrat socialist liberal bs when most of us forgot or don't care what one is, whatever you want to call it is immaterial at this point in time.

The idea is to get the US broke. As much as there are solutions to our problems - that's not the idea.

Making a comparison to pre 60's civil rights legislation and post 60's civil rights legislation:

I understand that there are various pre/post events to consider/compare. Pre/post slavery, pre/post civil war, pre/post brown v board, (many)... and these things can be scrutinized for comparison.

The 1960's Civil Rights was a success in in that it helped accomplish political and civil integration and transform the political and social condition of Blacks, combating legal segregation. The Nixon administration, supported black capitalism, expanded small business grantmaking dramatically to minority, launched affirmative action nationwide/The Philadelphia Plan/it's successors, created the Community Development Block Grant Program.

C.R. failed in changing sustainable economic conditions and others: Racial separatism and extremism, 1954 blacks earned about 53% of what whites earned, 57% by 1980. The number of segregated schools in 1980 surpassed the number of segregated schools before 1954. Currently 40% of middle class blacks are in government related employment.

The first Reconstruction had successes and failures, as did the second.

There are myriad reasons, influences, and theories. None the less, it's clear that separatism and racial ideologies don't work. Further, current statistics have the black population at 14%, Hispanics at 15%, white at 63%. It is counter productive to rationalize that we should be anything except integrated with 'white' contemporaries while better utilizing gains and rejecting what doesn't work, especially considering future statistics. Class/political war fare and racism (from either side) are failures.

I believe you need to focus on your Glenn Becks and Pat Buchannons with that message....just saying....

One can explain who Glen Beck is, or the Pat person, if they want. It is wayyy off topic though, and of little interest to me.

It's still clear (imo) that separatism and racial ideologies don't work, but others may not agree. Rather then throw out a straw man, perhaps they'll explain why they think racial/separatism does work.

P.S. Read my post on 'comparisons, upstream. One would think it would be a concern to compare 'how we're doin' now - pre and post C.R., which was the topic by the by. Yet my 1st Amendment rights are yours as well.

Who in particular are you speaking of regarding 'separatism and racial ideologies'.

Because it's clear that it is the right..ie Beck and Buchanan who are espousing those views.

Common Sense said...

I agree with you Uptown Steve and others. This is exactly what those commentators discuss.

Also, it's sad that people feel that to be conservative means to be anti-black, and anti-"handouts". Look at your wonderful leader, G.W. BUSH. He was pro-black (provided more funding for aid to African than most of his predecessors). Aid to Africa is certainly a "hand-out"! Wait...so is free school lunch a "hand-out"? Is that socialism? Yes! But would a true conservative say let the children that can't afford lunch at school starve! That's a true conservative right; wrong! The point is that socialism is part of the American economic fabric! The questions is not, should America be socialist; because we have been for decades!

Of course it is of little interest to you, because it would mean you would have to deal with the racism and bigotry from within the RIGHT.
