The Congressional Black Caucus Should Just Stick To Throwing Galas

I firmly believe that were it not for double standard liberals would have not standards at all. How pray tell do these Congressmen and Congresswomen demonize the Bush administration for waterboarding yet laud Fidel Castro a known murderer! Let's take a look at his record shall we:

"Castro tried to get Nikita Khrushchev to nuke several southern cities in the US in the early 1960’s, including New Orleans and probably Baton Rouge.
He incarcerates more people as a percentage of population than Hitler or Stalin did.
He murdered 17,000 Cubans and (several dozen U.S. citizens) with firing squads and dumped their bullet-riddled bodies in mass graves.
He has impoverished and brutalized Cuba to the point where 20 percent of its population risked their lives to flee. And prior to his glorious reign, Cuba took in more immigrants per capita than any country in the Western Hemisphere . More Americans lived in Cuba than Cubans in the U.S. , and Cuba even had to turn away European immigrants.
Castro sent his agents to torture to death American POWs in North Vietnam ’s Cu Loc POW camp outside Hanoi in 1967. "(Source)

It's very ironic that Bobby Rush (D-Ill) former black panther member de facto "racism chaser" would feel comfortable with Castro. Rush describe his time with Castro as "like listening to an old friend". You would think at least Rush would have some knowledge of Cuba's record on racism since he is in the racism business. Heck Wikipedia has a plethera of information regarding racism in Cuba:

"According to anthropologists dispatched by the European Union, racism is systemic and institutional.[2] Blacks are systematically excluded from positions that tourism related jobs, where they could earn tips in hard currencies.[2] According to the EU study, blacks are relegated to poor housing, complained of the longest waits for healthcare, were excluded from managerial positions, received the lowest remittances from relatives abroad, and were five times more likely to be imprisoned.”[2]
Enrique Patterson describes race as “social bomb” and says that “If the Cuban government were to permit black Cubans to organize and raise their problems before [authorities] . . . totalitarianism would fall”.[5] Esteban Morales Domínguez, a professor in the University of Havana, says that “The absence of the debate on the racial problem already threatens . . . the revolution’s social project”.[5] Carlos Moore, who has authored extensive on the issue, says that “There is an unstated threat, blacks in Cuba know that whenever you raise race in Cuba, you go to jail. Therefore the struggle in Cuba is different. There cannot be a civil rights movement. You will have instantly 10,000 black people dead”.[5] He says that a new generation of black Cubans are looking at politics in another way.[5] Barack Obama’s victory has raised disturbing questions about the institutional racism in Cuba.[2] The Economist noted “The danger starts with his example: after all, a young, black, progressive politician has no chance of reaching the highest office in Cuba, although a majority of the island’s people are black.”[6]
Jorge Luis García Pérez, who was imprisoned and tortured for 17 years, states “The authorities in my country have never tolerated that a black person oppose the regime. During the trial, the color of my skin aggravated the situation. Later when I was mistreated in prison by guards, they always referred to me as being black”.[7]"(

First PSBO goes abroad and apologizes for America, then his posse (the CBC) goes to Cuba to get all warm and fuzzy with a murderous communist dictator -- and still his acolytes are hopeful and want to give him a chance. What's next? Oh yes, how could I forget North Korea spits in our face by launching a nuclear missile and PSBO intends to scrap our nuclear missiles. Seriously, in order to support Obama you HAVE to be in serious denial, absolutely detest this country, or be a complete idiot or all of the above. So since the CBC are Obama supporters and are complete morons the most patriotic thing they can do moving forward is just keep on throwing galas it seems to be what they do best--although I'll never buy another ticket.

I'm going to have to talk to some Cubans, in particular some Black Cubans, to see what's what here...

All I can say when it comes to opening relations with Cuba is; to what end? What has changed in the last 47 years that makes the Cuban leadership seem less murderous and oppressive? Do the democrats need another vacation spot? The Castro brothers have not changed. And they are too stubborn to admit that their socialist revolution has been a dismal failure, they prefer to watch the Cuban people suffer.

They continue to offer aid and comfort to our ideological enemies, allowing the Chinese to erect oil rigs to exploit the oil that our democratic congress is too stupid to allow us to exploit. Instead the democrats offer "green jobs" and sacrifice in the name of the new false religion; man made climate change.

I can understand that the radical left, whether Cuban or homegrown (Congressional Black Caucus) share the same naiveté and stubbornness that inexorably leads to people suffering. I can't understand why the American people are standing by and letting the revolution come to America.

Instead of a bloody Godless Che', we have a Godless bloodless Rahm. Same function, different methods. Both desiring the end of a capitalist society.

Growing up in Florida and attending college with many of the children of Cubans that fled during the Mariel Boat lift it really is amazing that our government would even entertain the idea of normal relations with this regime.

Where is the outrage from the NAACP against those who would want to normalize relations with a country that continues to deny its citizenry common civil rights especially those of darker skin tone. Some of the CBC are the results of a similar struggle in this country yet they are turning their backs on those who are still being held hostage. Some of these people if standing on the streets of America would look like any American Black man or woman. This is a disgrace.

It is also interesting that Cuban Americans tend to be conservative, because they've seen socialism and communism at work and did everything they could to get away from it.

@ALL:

Again, I am not so inclined to beleive the hype you all are selling. I have meet many AFRO Cubans, and I have not heard this sentiment that you all are forwarding regarding how "darker skinned" Cubans are treated. In fact, Castro supported African governments agiants Whites often, was recieved well by Nelson Mandela and just last December sent workers to help combat HIV in Botswana.

Sorry, I don't believe the hype you all are selling, and I would like to talk to some Black Cubans and am going to make a point of it.

Aside from that many of you are base hypocrits in this, I'm going to leave it at that, but you all should really NOT talk about the "Democratic Plantation" and how Blacks eat up the racial hype from the left, when you all seem to be being played like a game of Pac Man in 1983.

That's one way of looking at it, who knows how well Cuba's socialism would have worked without a US Embargo? Guess we won't know...

I have never been to Cuba (obviously) and I don't know any Cubans intimately but I know how to read and based on what I have read...Fidel Castro isn't a nice guy.

On another note, what's up with Bobby Rush? Has he had a stroke or some sort of illness which effects his speech. If not.....whew, he sounds like Whoopi Goldberg's interpretation of a heroin addict. Seriously, if he doesn't have some medical condition at play he really needs a remedial class in speech & diction.

I have been to Gitmo a couple of times, ddidn't get to talk to any "Cubans" till I was in Rosey Rhodes and met some exp-pats in Puerto Rico. I Have meet a few here in Chicago and some in New York, but I have never heard the Black Cubans I knew express such view, in fact I have heard QUITE the opposite.

"but I know how to read and based on what I have read...Fidel Castro isn't a nice guy."

Really, neither is the King Of Saudie Arabia, but your right wing kissed his butt for the last 8 years. Neither was the South African govenment during Regan's days, but your right wingers loved them, I could go on, but why? There are whole lot of very bad men our govenrmnet supported, all I see is hypocrisy from the US government, we talk to China because we have to, they are a serious violator of human rights, we might as well talk to Castro and Co., NOT talking has done nothing good and I further posit the US EMBARGO has made things worse for Blacks in Cuba MORE than anything else.

DJBA~Wow, you are hot today! You may have a point there, but I'm not sure. Yes hypocrisy is a big problem on both sides right and left.

But, again...what's up with Bobby Rush's speech impediment? Do you know? Has he had a stroke? I'm worried? These looping soundbytes of him this morning are seriously embarrasing. He just shouldn't speak at all ever in public.

Keep him in prayer.

See I knew I was just being vile and that I would regret voicing my concern about his speech. Well, thank you for the link. Pray for him? Dang, I guess I am duty bound to do that aren't I? I guess I need to first pray that the bitter root (and I do mean BITTER ROOT)will be removed from my own heart first for him and all racism chaser everywhere!

I can understand where you are coming from, Boddy Rush has irritated me a number of times, but I have come to the conclusion, that they just don't know better. They are stuck in a Civil Rights paradigm and unfortunately, there is very little leadership from the generations from people following his generation, that we haven't moved from that.

The Civil Rights paradigm is not going to work on these 21'st century problems our community faces, that message needs to get out.

That's why, I am about to make my voice heard.

(I am DJ Black Adam, and i approve this message)

Yep, I think I am going to for 2010 or 12 run. Sad part, I'd more than like HAVE to run as a Republican, as much as the Right has ticked me off over the last 30 years, If I had to pick a party, it would....gasp...have to be the GOP. And it's because in the greater Chicago Land area, and ufnortunately in our case, the Democrats are the problem.

So it is pure startegy. Besides, I think the general electorate would frown upon me running as an "Aristocratic Elitist"...

LOL...Yeah, I think you are right! Well, that's excellent. You can change the face of the GOP and help us get our collective act together. Whooo-Hooooo!!! I can say I knew you when....btw, I am only halfway through your book. It was actually a great help to me personally 2 weekends ago because I experienced a personal crisis and your words were edifiying.

I am not glad to hear you had a persoanl crisis, but I am glad to hear the book was helpful. I too have been going through a little something, and I have to re-read it myself from time to time, hopefully it will all stick someday! :-)

It was interesting reading the various comments.
My background is British born of Jamaican parents who grew up in Florida.

A a child in JA my French and Spanish teachers were Cuban. Our doctors were Cuban. A lot of interaction. They were of every race.
I have been to Cuba as a Jamaican to see family/friends who were there in medical school. And also as a Brisih tourist to the beaches.
So yes I have seen both sides. What they wanted the tourists to see and regular Cuba.
Is Cuba poor yes, is it the poorest country I have seen no. India and parts of africa I have been to were poorer.

And the fact that Blacks are treated badly. That is the history of the Caribbean and South America.
Go to Brazil, which has the biggest black population outside of Africa. The blacks are second class citizens. I go and I am a mestivo (brown skinn) with a british accent. Hugo Chavez I dont agree with his politics but one of the reasons he is hated. He has black blood. And to the people of his country with European blood. No No NO.
In the Caribbean/South America there is/was a caste system. Europeans, Chinese, Lebanese/Jews/Syrians,Indians and last blacks.
So how is Cuba different? Travel through the region and see how blacks are treated. One of my brothers was in JA governement and so has to do a lot of travel in the Caribbean/Americas. He said it was eye opening.

Castro has murdered thousands of people (not right). But when has that stopped us from talking or doing business with a country. Such as Russia,China Zimbabwe, Apartheid South Africa. The list goes on. There needs to be consistency.

What would Cuba be like if maybe we had talked to them? And worked with them.
Why can't family members visit Cuba regularly? What does that ban accomplish.

You are right on about this. I may have been to Cuba, and I know first hand that you are right on what you say. I also have been to Viet Nam, and you are right there too. Keep up the good work.

"Not a nice guy" is an extreme understatement."

And the current administration is CONTINUING the "butt kissing" of the Saudi Royal family....though they are far from friends, they have, like Pakistan's government, offered a tacit, if tepid support for America's WoT. BOTH those government have a LOT to fear from the radical Islamists within their midsts, so they walk a very fine tightrope with the West.

South Africa is a poor example, as the reagan administration did little to support that regime. It DID proudly and rightly support the Nicaraguan Contras and the anti-Marxists in El Salvador.

@JMK:

This I found regarding Castro's agents in Vietnam:

"Captain Vohden and Colonel Bomar will offer compelling and detailed testimony describing the actions committed against them by Cuban agents at "The Zoo," acts which are in direct violation of the Geneva Convention on Prisoners of War. To violate the provisions enshrined in this document runs against the grain of civilized society and undermines the integrity of our international community as a whole. Humanity is one; when one suffers, we all suffer. Violations of this protocol are not just crimes against one individual, but against all of humanity."

Hmmm: "To violate the provisions enshrined in this document runs against the grain of civilized society and undermines the integrity of our international community as a whole"

Maybe Bush and Cheney should have read that....

Torture: "The delivery of physical and mental brutality that leaves the recipient with permanent damage."

Only a few kooks compare water-boarding to actual torture. EVERY U.S. Special Forces member is water-boarded and some anti-terror Police Units and other First Responders (most of them anti-terror trainers) have been water-boarded.

I've experienced voluntarily twice and it leaves NO permanent disabilities.

What America's POW's in Vietnam and elsewhere have been subjected to (ie. John McCain having his broken armed pounded on and raised and lowered like a pump) have left those subjects permanently physically disabled.

Oddly enough, one of the major arguments AGAINST the use of torture is, "So other nations don't subject our Military to the same procedures."

A DUMB argument, when your enemies torture as a matter of course, isn't it?

Ironically enough, the ONLY charge of torture (real torture) that the Bush administration seemed guilty of was their use of RENDITION - sending suspects to foreign governments for "coerced interrogations."

Given that fact, then it seems you HAVE to put the Obama administration in that same boat now, as they have not only continued but INCREASED the use of RENDITION.....so perhaps you meant to say, "Maybe Bush, Cheney and Obama "should have read that..."???

DJ Black Adam said...

@JMK:

Precedent set by YOUR right winger Bush and Chenet Co., as well as questionable interogations that were in direct violation of the Geneva Convention (which of course didn't apply to the "detainees"....

Like I said, if you didn't have a probelm with Bush on that I don't see why you do with Obama. I have a problem with BOTH, nowhere did I say I agree 100% with Obama, nor did I say he was beyond reproove.
