The Church Has Lost Her Testimony Because We Seek To Re-make Him In Our Image

"The church has lost her testimony. She has no longer anything to say to the world. Her once robust shout of assurance has faded away to an apologetic whisper. She who one time went out to declare now goes out to inquire. Her dogmatic declaration has become a respectful suggestion, a word of religious advice, given with the understanding that it is after all only an opinion and not meant to sound bigoted. Pure Christianity, instead of being shaped by its culture, actually stands in sharp opposition to it". - A.W. Tozer

(H/T to Ken Silva)

And here is why-- also a quote from A.W. Tozer

"Much of our difficulty as seeking Christians stems from our unwillingness to take God as He is and adjust our lives accordingly. We insist upon trying to modify Him and bring Him nearer to our own image." - A.W. Tozer

Sadly this is so true. Assimilation has diluted the message of Salvation.

Man oh man this is the sad reality..me and my wife were just talking about TCU and how they had reversed there decision to have dorm rooms for gays....well duh...that should be a no brainer...sadly the church is retreating and being gutless...and that is dangerous for our civilization and our freedoms....

I ask anyone to enlighten me. Give me one valid reason why you or anyone else should NOT use his admiration for Wright as an indication of his personal sentiments.

IAGNB~If by "he" you are talking about Barack Obama. I that his admiration of Rev. Wright DOES indicate his personal sentiment. Rev. Wright espoused liberation theology in his church, Pres. Obama sat in that church and under Wrights teachings for 20 years. Liberation Theology is an aberrant, secular, sick, deviled, racist political ideology (It's not theology at all) and I think that perfectly describes President Barack Obama.

Why is it the only time you conservatives have problem with racism and racist imagrey you never can see it in your own grand ole party but can always see it with people like Wright?

DJBA~Racism exists in the heart of man black or white. It's just that the GOP has the good sense to espouse their racism private among themselves (I guess). Rev. Wright espouses everytime he opens his big mouth. He even disparages black people and practically called black children stupid in his Nat'l Press Club speech where he says that black children "learn" differently. Pardon me if I can't contain my contempt for especially black people who claim to have the best interest of black at heart but their real feelings inevitably betray them when they start trying to rationalize their twisted thinking.

Private? I hardly found Jesse helms, Strom Thurmond, Sean hannity, Rush Limbaugh, Pat Buchannon, etc., private.

And why do you say Wright diparages black children? Don't get me wrong, I have meet Dr. Wright on a few occasions, and find him a pompous windbag, but, that one I am curious as to how you arrived at it.

DJBA~Jesse Helms is dead. Strom Thurman was a democrat most of his life...and yep they have bee public with their racism. Robert Byrd also a democrat and also still living and is still vocal in his opposition to black people based on race alone. Neither of us are going to get anywhere trying to point out who is racist and who isn't (because everybody is to some extend and if they say that they are not then they are lying maybe even to themselves) The best we can do is crucify those ugly feeling when they arise.

I am not about to start defending Rush, Sean or Pat but as far as the first two are concerned I listen daily to their shows and I think if they are racist they certainly have not exhibited in the time that I have been listening. Yes, Rush plays those silly parodies of Barack Obama but that is not racist that's entertainment. Heck, that black internet guy Alphacat impersonates Barack Obama.

Regarding Rev. Wright....he said at the national press club that black children process information differently that we use our brains differently. In fairness he said that it doesn't mean that we are less intelligent or capable (I'm paraphrasing)but not only do I think that's pure racist hyperbole but the fact that he would reguritate that crap in a room full of black folks and of course all of the "dumb sheep" (yep I said dumb and I meant it) applauded and cheered makes me sick to my stomach. I am a parent I have a brilliant daughter and her brain functions like a human brain not a black brain-- how inane.

If you can't see it with Hannity, Rush or Buchannon, I guess we just have two different perspectives. I judge them as the SAME as Wright, and as for Dr. Wright, seriously CBW, I think his statement was a sociological one, not a racial one.

I am discovering more and more that churches are being infiltrated by false prophets who are exclaiming that one can "encounter", or, become more intimate with Christ thru "ancient" mystic practices, meditation/centering prayer and other New Age rituals. This is deeply disturbing. I recently discovered that my church is offering such classes and just finished writing a letter to the Pastors and Elders. Biblical doctrine states and it is my understanding that we develop a more intimate relationship with Jesus Christ thru Faith and daily study of His Word. Not through man-made efforts!

@Grace:

What's wrong with deep prayer and mediation if one is meditating on Christ?

Just asking...

God's word tells us to meditate on scripture; and by doing so we keep our minds active and alive and on the written Word.

How do you meditate on Christ in deep prayer?

Gal 1:6-8
6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:

7Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would PERVERT the gospel of Christ.

8But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.

Believers--please wake up and heed the warnings!

If you are a CHRISTian, how do you NOT meditate on CHRIST?
