PSBO Breaks 7 Promises in Record Time

This list was compiled by the blogger Sweetness & Light:

1. Make government open and transparent.

2. Make it "impossible" for Congressmen to slip in pork barrel projects.

3. Meetings where laws are written will be more open to the public. (Even Congressional Republicans shut out.)

4. No more secrecy.

5. Public will have 5 days to look at a bill.

6. You’ll know what’s in it.

7. We will put every pork barrel project online.

But I'm sure his devoted acolytes won't be so bothered to let facts get in the way of reason -- after all "Bush Lied/People Died" (or so they say).I figured I save them the trouble of responding.

Very important. Obama promises 5 days, barely gives us 3. Congress promised 2 days, barely gave us 1/2 day.

Things are so much better now with one party rule, aren't they?

CBW - worse than the "broken promises" he plans a "Fiscal Responsibility Tour" very soon.

The budget deficit will be $2 trillion this year and he is STILL attacking Bush on Deficit spending. Go figure.

The word "audacity" means that you stand in the breach and ATTACK THE OTHER GUY while doing the very thing that you are hating on him about.

To be clear, however, while "Bush spent like a drunken sailor", Obama is making "INVESTMENTS".

Got it?
You have better!!

Neither (Fmr.) President Bush nor Barack Obama has (had) shown mature leadership abilities.

The price of the package isn't what worries me as much as what we'll end up getting for the money.

Obama had assumed that he would single-handedly be able to reform D.C. .
When the reality hit that everyone has their own agenda - it was too late (Pelosi/Reid had done their damage).
We ahve two (major) parties for a reason - to encourage debate and hinder a single group's rule.

Obama's biggest mistake was to give too much power to others. He's supposed to lead and let Congress follow.

That was Eliot Spitzer's problem in New York...I should hope Obama's tenure goes better than that.

Jimmy Carter was moved far-Left by an overwhelmingly Liberal Democratic Congress in 1976 and paid a HUGE price.

Rahm Emanuel's a very savvy pol and they HAVE rebuffed some of the Pelosi-Reid overreaching, but the tide is very definitely hard-Left at this point, and I fear that Obama's basic sensibilities are as well...and that could end in trouble.

Carter's administration wasn't star-crossed with "bad luck," it was brought to ruin by very bad policies.

The CBO doesn't have much good to say about the current "stimulus Bill" (http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2009/feb/04/cbo-obama-stimulus-harmful-over-long-haul/) so it's hard to think any of this is going to end up going all that well.

Should things get significantly worse by then, 2010 could be a watershed, virtually Gingrichian year...THAT would be the ONLY way to keep the likes of Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, John Conyers and Henry Waxman in check.

CBW,
If Obama really wanted to be open he could start with ordering a vault copy of his birth certificate to be shown. It's not asking a lot considering he ran for PUBLIC OFFICE.

Many Presidents have had to release otherwise private documents under public pressure. If he has nothing to hide it would go a long way in putting the conspiracy theorists at ease.

That would also lesson some of the fears and uneasiness going around about legitimacy.

JMK,
Don't even get me going on Carter... that man is a real nut case in my line of thought. He owes America one Panama Canal IMO.

OMG! A real-life COLB/Birther as I live and breathe! I haven't heard from one of you people since all of your useless cases got shot down one-by-one in every court you all appeared in.

And Carter's the nut case?

LOL!!!

Unlike you all it appears, I hardly expect "promises" to be hard coded from ploitcians, I expect them to be merely benchmarks or goals.

But that's me...

My God.

The pathetic coonservatives are going after Obama even more viciously than the white conservatives?

WHY?

Just have to prove to massa how much you love him, eh?

After he totally screwed this country up for the last eight years, you're still confessin' your undying love.

Downright pathetic.

"The budget deficit will be $2 trillion this year and he is STILL attacking Bush on Deficit spending. Go figure."

That's because Bush doubled the federal deficit.

But you already knew that, right?

The cost of the failed war in Iraq alone cost $3 trillion dollars.

And righties have the titanic nuggets to complain about the stimulus package?????????

"Things are so much better now with one party rule, aren't they?"

The Repubs had one party rule for 6of the last eight years, didn't they?

Are you people for real?

Uptown, but the Democrats are different!!!! They have integrity, never break their promises.

That's why Obama breaking his promises is soooo baffling to us.

"THAT'S because common sense, pragmatism and realism (according to BK) make such folks crazy."

Oh yeah.

We've sure seen plenty of common sense over the last 8 years from the right regarding Katrina, the economy, Gitmo, Abu Gharib, deregulation, the politicization of the AG's office....etc......

What color is the sky in your world?

I can get appreciate that - shameless stupidity.

Not ashamed over confusing the National DEBT with Budget DEFICITS/SURPLUSES, you've moved onto show that this isn't an isolated misconception.

(*) Katrina?

Ironically enough, I worked on a FEMA team from NYC sent down to N.O. - the first teams arrived, as they did in NYC after 9/11, within two days, BUT the FEMA Teams weren't allowed in, due to the civil insurrection. The National Guard was called in to quell (put down) that insurrection. The Governor (Mary Blanco D-La) blocked the federal control of the disaster, by blocking federal control over Loisiana's National Guard.

(*) The ECONOMY?

Deregulation? That didn't tank the economy, quite the reverse! In fact, BOTH G W Bush & John McCain fought for MORE regulation and oversight of Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac, first in 2003, and AGAIN in 2005.

What tanked the economy was BAD regulation - the eradication of traditional lending standards (ie. charging higher interest rates in high-default areas, etc) and Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac buying up loans it was previously barred from buying/backing (ie. 0% DOWN loans, "pick-a-payment loans, etc.).

With the GSE's (Fannie & Freddie) guaranteeing all that bad paper, the banks and mortgage brokers couldn't write such bad loans fast enough. Herb and Marrion Sandler of World Savings and Loan had their "deferred debt" (the amount of principle and interest deferred to later by borrowers) balloon FROM $24 MILLION in 2000 to over $121 BILLION by 2006....THAT'S what tanked the economy!

(*) GITMO? So, you favored a "take no prisoners approach" to the WoT? That's the only other "reasonable alternative, since the Geneva protocols DON't cover "enemy combatants" (spies, mercenaries, soldiers fighting out of uniform).

Our own civilian contractors are routinely killed when captured...jihadists who fight without a uniform should be treated the same way.

(*) Abu Ghraib?

One of the only atrocities committed by our troops in this war and you see that as an indictment of the WoT?

We tried OUR (very few) miscreant soldiers....the enemy? Not so much.

Liberalism does indeed appear to be a mental disorder.
