Sarah's great. I like her even more now that the election is over- I'm not sure what that says. I'm glad these discussion are happening and that the media is getting called out.

I'm glad that she spoke out about her treatment. It was way worse than what Obama got. When Obama and Pres. Clinton asked for their children to be left alone the media complied. You never heard a word about Chelsea until she was grown and started dating. You still barely hear anything about her even now except for when she was helping her mother's campaign. From what little I saw I do not believe they said anything about Obama's daughters until he became the president-elect.

When they IMMEDIATELY suggested that Sarah's baby was her daughters I knew that she was seen as a threat. I also knew that journalism had really died in this country. The sad thing was how so many bloggers were willing to jump on it without doing their own research. I would have thought that all they had to do was check the local papers for this information. The child was only 4-5 months old. More than likely they could have searched the online version of the paper to get the headlines. I'm sure it was front page news since she is the governor of the state. They wanted to smear her from having any positive influence in the political process. That is pretty sad that a vice presidential candidate would be attacked so dreadfully when in all practical purposes they have no real power unless the president is unable to serve. That had rarely happened in this country. You barely heard anything about Joe Biden when he has 20+ years of history in the Senate.

Sidebar: I pray that people raise holy hell if Congress dares to bring back the Fairness Doctrine. People may not agree with talk radio BUT it is media driven. If they are successful in this it could not just be limited to talk radio but Christian programming as well if people that hate Christianity files a complaint with the FCC. That would be a disaster for freedom of the press and freedom of religion. Too many of them that want this also believe that our constitution is a living document where the meaning of it can be changed at will, usually through the judicial system. If the constitution needs to be changed there is an amendment process for that. It was done to give blacks the same rights as everyone else. I believe there are 27 amendments that have been made. Implementing the Fairness Doctrine would eliminate two constitutional rights without going through the proper amendment process. I say this because of people that will argue that we have a constitution. The way the 9th circuit court of appeals and others make their rulings there would not be any constitutional rights for people of faith and decent morals. I sincerely pray to God that this will be brought up if anyone dares to bring it back.

I think Sarah Palin has what it takes to be a great leader. I admire how she started with her involvement in her children's school PTA, then went on to the city council, then to being mayor and then to being Alaska's governor.

I voted for the McCain-Palin ticket. Gov. Palin did not speak out on those Republican pundits that were not very supportive of her (like former Reagan speech writer and currently WSJ columnist Peggy Noonan), which I understand. But I hope there are no efforts on their part to keep her from running for higher office in the future.

I want to be able to vote for her again, but with victorious results.

She is guilty of some of the things that she is complaining about when it comes to lying. Heeellllloooo, Sarah.

Albeit the media did come at her extra hard due to her conservative ideology.

If I saw her interact more with people of the darker, I could have been more comfortable with her.

The bottom line is that there was biased reporting that painted her in a negative light. People should be treated equally and it did not happen.

Sarah Palin needs to use her time in the media microscope as a lesson.

She is still governor. She has time to strengthen some of her weaknesses and return to the national stage later.

Her most logical move would be to take on the Democrat who just won the seat vacated by the corrupt Republican Ted Stevens when it comes open in 6 years.

Pamela:I'm glad that she spoke out about her treatment. It was way worse than what Obama got. When Obama and Pres. Clinton asked for their children to be left alone the media complied. You never heard a word about Chelsea until she was grown and started dating.
Roderick: You obviously missed it when Rush Limpballs called Chelsea a dog and John McCain joked that her dad was Janet Reno.
Pamela: You still barely hear anything about her even now except for when she was helping her mother's campaign. From what little I saw I do not believe they said anything about Obama's daughters until he became the president-elect.
Roderick: That’s probably because Chelsea is living on her own and is keeping her nose clean, but she has been in the tabloids several times concerning her personal life. I am sure if one of the Obama daughters had been pregnant the right wing would have been all over it as well as you self-hating conservatives who would have held her up as what’s wrong with black folks. LOL
Pamela: When they IMMEDIATELY suggested that Sarah's baby was her daughters I knew that she was seen as a threat. I also knew that journalism had really died in this country.
Roderick: If you read the story of her labor and delivery you would be suspicious also. But my guess is that Palin’s (already in labor) flying from Texas to give birth to her son in Alaska had something to do with the Alaska Independent Party.
Furthermore Palin brought her family into the public sphere when she was so vocal about carrying the pregnancy with Trig to term after the test confirmed that he had Down’s syndrome and how the hell did you think she was going to keep her pregnant unwed daughter ( who is still unwed and supposedly looking forward to a summer wedding) a secret especially since Alaska is a such a small state. Someone would have sold the story to a tabloid.
If Palin is this thin-skinned about criticism she needs to stay in Alaska because politics isn’t flag football.

Roderick~I seem to remember that you are the guy who feels that the mainstream media shows no bias so its understandable why the implication of all of this is lost on you.

Rush Limbaugh is not a journalist. He is a radio personality who doesn't claim to be impartial.

Mainstream media is in bed with Barack Obama. Only Obama acolytes like yourself are in denial about the undeniable. Chris Matthews who is in fact supposed to be a journalist said "It is my job to get this guy elected" he admitted it. Once PEBO won he said he felt a thrill shooting down his leg. The Media is caught up in a sexy, lurid, illicit love affair with PEBO and no matter what he does during his term it will be OK with his supporters and the media.

Roderick,

Let me check your logic:

Sarah Palin's decision to publicly declare that she would bring her down syndrome baby to term means:

It's acceptable for the media to trash her teenage daughter. Forgive me but I don't follow.

I would expect the media to report on the fact she was pregnant, but going beyond that with the insults is what many of us deem as not acceptable.

Simply stating the fact that media coverage was unfair and unbalanced does not make her thin skinned. She didn't seem all devastated and broken about it. She stated she had an emotional response over her child - or any child- being attacked by the media. As a mother I totally get that.

This may be slightly off topic, but anyone think it's a bit strange that the burning of her church has received next to no attention whatsoever? Explain what's up with that.

And I am not self hating. Other than having to deal with those that are prejudiced against me for my beliefs, being conservative rocks because I understand the world around me and how it works. :)

This blog piece is talking about the mainstream media. That is the context of all my comments. Right-wing commentators clearly state what their intentions are, that is, to state their opinions. Jphn McCain is not a media person either BTW. The mainstream media is to accurately report what is happening. They obviously did not do that when it came to Sarah Palin or anyone that questioned or could hurt Obama's popularity. Stating the facts has nothing to do with whether she has a thick skin or not. Again if anyone criticizes anything surrounding Obama (in this case the obvious differences in how Obama was reported on compared to Palin), their character is immediately questioned. Roderick's responses to me prove what the rest of us already know. He just proved the point of this blog entry. Thanks, Roderick.

I will restate this. The mainstream media did leave Chelsea alone during her father's campaign and his two terms in office. Yes I'm old enough to have watched the media coverage during those days. The mainstream media did leave Obama's children alone. When Palin asked for that they did not honor her request. Not only did they NOT honor her request they published obvious lies. It's pretty obvious.

Judy~You are absolutely right regarding the burning of Sarah Palin's church. If Unity, Obama's old church would have been burned down the media would have inundated us. If would have been an act of racism, they would have blamed the republicans and on and on and on.

Wow...I am flabbergasted by this statement. In order to like Palin, she has to associate with people of color? Wowwowow! By this statement, Obama won your approval by default, huh? You must really love it when Democrats like the Clintons show up at black churches--completely ignoring the fact that white Dems only show up when it's election time baby!

If you're a Christian, and Palin is a Christian, she's your sister in Christ regardless of whether she has the obligatory person of color in her entourage. And um...I do believe McCain's youngest daughter falls under the "people of the darker" category. I'd rather pay attention to someone who doesn't feel the need to pander or patronize me by showing up with or around black folks when the cameras shine.

And newsflash--the world doesn't revolve around black folks! I don't believe I've heard that sort of statement from the mouths of Asians prior to the elections of Cao, Jindal, etc to influential political positions.

JudyBright: Sarah Palin's decision to publicly declare that she would bring her down syndrome baby to term means:

Roderick: How did the media trash Palin’s daughter?
When you claim to have better morals than the average person you set yourself up for scrutiny. Unfortunately your children’s behavior is a good barometer of how well you practice what you preach.
If the preacher’s children know more four-letter words than you do then there may be a problem. If a preacher’s kid is running all over the church during the service then how in the heck is going to teach anyone about discipline?
Futhermore Palin is a full time working mom. If this had happened to Chelsea or one of the Obama daughters I am sure know-it-all holy rollers like Dr Dobson would have claimed that her absence from the household led to her daughter becoming pregnant.
JudyBright: I would expect the media to report on the fact she was pregnant, but going beyond that with the insults is what many of us deem as not acceptable.
Roderick: What exactly did the media do/say about Palin’s daughter?
I guess you missed how the Republicans tried to turn lemons into lemonade when they had Levi’s arrival and subsequent handshake with McCain covered by the media as well as Levi and Bristol sitting together with Trig in Bristol’s lap. LOL
Even one of McCain’s people stated that if Bristol got married in October the story would take up an entire week of campaign coverage.
JudyBright: Simply stating the fact that media coverage was unfair and unbalanced does not make her thin skinned. She didn't seem all devastated and broken about it.
Roderick: This isn’t the first time she has complained about the media. About fives weeks ago she was still complaining about how biased Katie Couric and Charlie Gibson were instead of admitting that she just wasn’t prepared for the interviews.
The ironic part is that Palin called Hillary a whiner when Hillary called the media sexist during her primary run but she’s crying about being asked questions she couldn’t answer.
I know the ‘librul’ media is the favorite strawman for conservatives but no one is going to elect a victim as Commander in Chief so if Palin plans to run in 2012 she should stop complaining about petty criticisms.
You may consider the coverage she got to be unfair but at the time she was nominated no one not even most Republicans knew anything about her. I remember watching CNN the day she was nominated and Kay Bailey Huchinson was asked about Palin and she said she didn’t know anything about her.
Furthermore Palin’s running mate was 72 years-old and had had several bouts with cancer. Hell even McCain knew his age was a liability and that is why he dragged his 93 year-old mother around the country to show the electorate that longevity ran in his family.
If McCain had been elected it would have been very likely that Palin would have assumed the Presidency at some point so why was such a problem about quizzing her on issues that she may have faced as President?
JudyBright: She stated she had an emotional response over her child - or any child- being attacked by the media. As a mother I totally get that.
Roderick: She’s the one who put her daughter in the political spotlight by
accepting the VP slot. Certainly she understands how hungry the press is for any type of scandal especially that of a family that claims to have higher moral standards than the rest.

Conservative Black Woman said...

Roderick when one professes that they are Christian. They profess the Jesus Christ is their Lord and their Savior. They do not profess to have higher moral standards then the rest-- although we are called to be holy. The fact remains that Christians are just as sinful as anyone else but we admit that we are incapable of saving ourselves and that we need a saviour precisely because we are morally wretched. That being said, Christians are can only be responsible for their own souls not their childrens'. So stop being an accuser and step down from your "holy" ground.

The media is no longer a reliable source of information in America because they are not impartial. They tried to railroad Sarah Palin but those of us who have not smoked the "Obamiate" can see through the spin.
